The other day i illegally downloaded a rare foreign movie from a torrent and found that the english subtitles were not included in the torrent. After a quick web search I found Open Subtitles where i downloaded the appropriate subtitles for the feature I had downloaded. All I needed to do was put the file [...]

Meebo has pretty much replaced any client instant messaging I do. They are a fun company with a great product and I recommend it to everybody (as I may have said here before). I found today that one of the many languages the site is translated into is 1337; it’s a hoot so check it [...]

My websurfing experience had not been great on the Edgy PPC machine. Firefox 2.0 was crashing, and konqueror was slow and not getting the support it should on sites. After hearing so many great things about Opera 9, I thought I would give it a try and I’m glad I did.

I upgraded my intel machine to Kubuntu Edgy Eft today. The process was long but smooth. i had been messing with my sources.list file for a while now and kind of wanted to start fresh, so i used the one from Ubuntu Guide. Everything worked well and it booted like a champ as if nothing [...]

FLAC stopped working again for me in Amarok. I had to use the same patch as before (a downgrade) because I could not find a ubuntu2-7.3 patch. Somebody let me know if ivoman or others write it. the downgrade still works, so I recommend just reinstalling the patch from the previous post.

Major updates to Edgy Eft have resulted in a much faster user experience. Although I can’t prove it, Firefox seems much more stable as well. Still waiting on win32codecs and ruby gems but Anjunta (misspelled in a previous post) is available. It is GNOME based which I didn’t realize. I also grabbed KDevelop which has [...]

Remote Desktop
My desktop/production computer and my media/home theater computer are back to back. Sure I could NFS my music onto the desktop computer and control it all locally (or get up and walk around like I have been doing), but instead I decided to play with VNC and Remote Desktop Connection (kRDC). It is set [...]

There have been many updates everyday to Edgy Eft (PPC 64) everyday. There are things that I am still looking forward to getting, however:
win32codecs
The video support is still lacking. I’m waiting on the win32codecs and better firefox support for video in general.
Automatix
The Automatix folks have been making headway with Edgy Eft however no sign of [...]

I like gmail and I like Konqueror but the latter is not “supported” by the former. And let’s face it, the plain html version of gmail is worthless. To get the full functioning gmail in an unsupported browser like Konqueror, use this url:
http://mail.google.com/mail/?nocheckbrowser
yeah, it’s buggy, but it’s fun to play with.
Also try out gmail in [...]

On my set up, Kubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft works. All it took was a: sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop (i chose to use gdm).
Still no luck with bluetooth. Codecs are still a bit of problem (big surprise, right?) since there are no win32codecs in the repos. As Edgy Eft becomes less and less beta, I have [...]
