Debian 4 on the iMac G5

May 1st, 2007 · No Comments

An article over at Linux.com on Debian 4 (Etch) got me interested to try it out. Since then, I’ve installed it a hand-full of times and have converted a few friends, too. I have read many articles by impressed bloggers about Debian Etch’s impressive features, and I have been impressed by my first hand impressions. [...]

Konqueror on Windows

April 13th, 2007 · 1 Comment

It’s just how i roll.
Update:
So I thought this would just be a lighthearted post but it is actually quite popular; now i feel like an ass for not explaining and just sticking out my tongue saying: i got it you don’t shut up.
What it is is a x window tunneled over ssh using putty and [...]

Gmail in Konqueror

October 15th, 2006 · 1 Comment

I like gmail and I like Konqueror but the latter is not “supported” by the former. And let’s face it, the plain html version of gmail is worthless. To get the full functioning gmail in an unsupported browser like Konqueror, use this url:
http://mail.google.com/mail/?nocheckbrowser
yeah, it’s buggy, but it’s fun to play with.
Also try out gmail in [...]

Linux on iMac, part III

October 15th, 2006 · No Comments

On my set up, Kubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft works. All it took was a: sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop (i chose to use gdm).
Still no luck with bluetooth. Codecs are still a bit of problem (big surprise, right?) since there are no win32codecs in the repos. As Edgy Eft becomes less and less beta, I have [...]

Linux on the iMac, part II

October 12th, 2006 · No Comments

Success is so sweet when followed by anxiety. Linux is up and running on the iMac making my lan completely linux. Here’s what I did:
First I tried an install of Suse 10.1 (open). I was a little disapointed to see it was 5 disks — I admire a distro that gets it done in [...]

Linux on the iMac G5

October 11th, 2006 · 2 Comments

I own an original iMac G5 17″ that I have designated as my production/desktop machine. I’ve been running panther on it for the last two years…until today that is. Since I began using Linux seriously, I have become more and more frustrated by the limitations of OS X. I made attempts at using Fink (package [...]

Ubuntu Server Project, Part III

August 29th, 2006 · 1 Comment

The development continues. I have the virtual servers set up on Apache2. I’m not sure what problems I was having with them. One thing to look out for when doing this set up while using ZoneEdit is that even when you reload apache after making configuration changes, it may change instantly or it may take [...]

A lot of progress has been made since the last update almost a month ago.

I broke XGL/Compiz on the, Celeron (Cate). The packages updated and I decided to experiment with different [...]

I use a Rio600 to listen to podcasts on my commute. I’ve been having trouble connecting to it on my new dapper system, so I’m going to Kio-Slave this weekend and see how it goes. i’m pretty sure rioutil was complaining about an updated libusb and needs the older version. i’d like to soft link [...]
